A selection of Glidden Trade paints has been used in the refurbishment of The Pipers Inn in Ashcott, Somerset, after the pub triumphed in the brand's national 'Paint and a Pint' competition to win a &2,000 makeover. Glidden Trade Vinyl Matt, Undercoat and High Gloss coatings were used in the impressive transformation which has helped to breathe new life in to the former 17th Century coaching inn.
The competition judges picked the Ashcott-based pub for one of the top prizes due to the originality and creativity of its entry. The panel was also keen to help landlords Christine and Roger Buckley, who had been saving to give the popular inn a facelift since they took ownership in 2009.
As part of the £2,000 makeover, Glidden Trade arranged for local painting and decorating company, M.S.B Painting, to complete the internal refurbishment. The landlords also received expert colour and paint advice from Glidden Trade Specification Account Manager, Bob McLellan. Understanding the high volume of customers the pub receives, Bob developed a specification which would offer a high quality, resilient finish, and a colour scheme that complemented the existing features within the interior.
To transform the bar area, the walls were painted using Glidden Trade Vinyl Matt in a mixture of warm pink shades, including Coral Caress and Rose Tan. The high opacity matt finish was also used in Brilliant White on the pub's function room walls and the ceiling area was painted in striking Barn Red, as Kane Yard from M.S.B Painting explains: "We applied the vibrant red shade in between the wooden ceiling beams in the function room to create a dramatic effect. The red contrasted really well with the white walls, and the paint helped to minimise any signs of surface imperfections."
Alongside Glidden Trade Vinyl Matt, M.S.B used the brand's Undercoat and High Gloss. Glidden Trade Undercoat provides excellent coverage, so was the perfect choice to provide a strong base for the trim areas. Glidden High Trade Gloss was then applied in Black for the toilet doors and trim throughout the pub, and in White and Almond White for window frames and sills in the main bar area.
Kane Yard continues: "Glidden Trade High Gloss is really easy to apply and it has excellent opacity. What's more, it provides a tough, durable finish so the pub will stay looking pristine for years to come. It has been a great opportunity for us to be involved in the Paint and a Pint project. The competition is a great boost for the community and businesses like ours."
Commenting on the final result, landlady Christine Buckley concludes: "I'm still in shock that we were selected for the top prize. We're so pleased with the finished result - the pub looks much lighter, brighter and fresh. We've also had great feedback from the regulars and we hope it will help to encourage even more local people to visit The Pipers Inn."
