Glidden Trade relaunches campaign to support Britian's pubs

Following on from the success of last year's 'Paint and a Pint' competition, Glidden Trade, one of the UK's leading trade paint brands, is offering independent landlords another chance to win a £2,000 makeover for their premises. Plus, for the first time, the competition also gives professional painters and decorators the chance to carry out the painting work if they nominate their local pub for the contest.

The UK pub industry has been hard hit by the recession with an estimated 39 pubs closing every week, resulting in job losses and millions of pounds lost to the economy. To support this ailing industry, the 'Paint and a Pint' 2011 competition will see two pubs receive a top makeover using Glidden Trade coatings and money towards a reopening party for the local community. Three second place prizes worth £500 are also up for grabs and five third place winners will also receive £100 in Glidden Trade vouchers to put towards their own makeover.

New to this year's competition, professional appliers who nominate their local pub will have the chance to carry out the redecoration work for it, should it be selected as a winner.

Commenting on the re-launch of the competition, Nicolas Guichard, Senior Brand Manager for Glidden Trade, said: "The pub industry still faces difficulties, given that consumer spending is under pressure and the rise in VAT has not helped the situation. As well as the strain on pubs, painting and decorating professionals are currently facing a difficult time as the economy struggles to bounce back from the recession."

"To support these sectors, as well as the wider community, Glidden Trade has re-launched the 'Paint and a Pint' competition, following its huge success last year. The competition is open for entry from any member of the public aged over 18 years, but we'd especially like the painting and decorating profession to get involved with the initiative by putting forward their local pub. Once the competition winners have been selected, appliers who have nominated their local may have the opportunity to complete the decoration works."

To be in with a chance of winning the competition, independent pub landlords and their customers should state why their pub deserves a makeover in fewer than 100 words.

Responses, along with contact details and a photo or a video of the nominated pub, should be sent via the Glidden Trade Facebook site found at www.facebook.com/gliddenpaint or to Glidden Trade "Paint and a Pint" Competition, Giant's Basin, Potato Wharf, Castlefield, Manchester, M3 4NB. Alternatively, entries can be submitted by email to gliddentrade@tangerinepr.com. All entries must be received before 5pm on 31 August 2011.

Projects will be judged on originality, merit and the benefits the makeover would bring to the pub and the local area. The renovation work will be carried out in late 2011, so access to the pub at this time will be crucial.

Shortlisting will take place in early September, with successful entrants going to an independent judging panel later that month. The winning entrants will be informed in October.
